Dubrovnik and the Dalmatian Coast

Dubrovnik and the Dalmatian Coast

8-Day Break

Day 1 – Fly to Dubrovnik, where you’ll be met and transferred to the resort of Bar, in Montenegro for a three-night stay. D
Day 2 – Albania and Tirana (included). Meet the country that is starting to open to the world! Isolated for so many years, Albania has preserved a traditional patriarchal way of life as shown in its typical architecture and culture. We visit Tirana, the capital of Albania where you can take a cablecar to Mount Dajta (1300m) for beautiful panoramic views. We include a sightseeing tour of Tirana, and free time, before returning to our hotel. B,D
Day 3 – Montenegro Tour (optional). To see the natural beauty of Montenegro’s coastline and countryside join today’s optional excursion. We head by boat to the island ‘Our Lady’ which provides a
great photo opportunity, then visit the old town of Kotor. Medieval architecture and numerous monuments of cultural heritage have made Kotor a UNESCO listed ‘World Natural and Historical Heritage Site’. The entire city is criss-crossed with narrow streets and squares. Byron judged this part of the coast as ‘the most beautiful encounter between land and sea’. B,D
Day 4 – Leave Montenegro and visit Cavtat en route to Dubrovnik for a four-night stay B,D
Day 5 – Dubrovnik Enjoy a day at leisure in Dubrovnik, described as ‘Paradise on Earth’, and a ‘Jewel in the Crown of the Adriatic’. Our optional guided city tour will show the main highlights. Alternatively take
the local bus into the city and explore independently. Dubrovnik has been called the most perfectly preserved medieval town in the world and is a city, which for centuries rivalled Venice as a major sea
trading port and has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site. The beautiful old town is a joy to explore. Take a walk along the stone ramparts of the city for the best views, before venturing inside to experience the many treasures. B,D
Day 6 – Mostar (optional). Situated on the Neretva River, Mostar has a long and turbulent history. During Turkish occupation a bridge (Stari Most) was built across the river, which became a symbol of the city. However the bridge was totally destroyed during the Croatia-Bosnia conflict in the early 1990’s. The painstaking rebuilding of the bridge, now represents a symbol of unity. B,D
Day 7 – Korcula (optional). Today, we enjoy an optional excursion by coach and boat to the island of Korcula, reputedly the birthplace of Marco Polo. The island is rich in fascinating historical influences, including the Greeks, Venetians and Turks. Just 20 miles long and only 4 to 5 miles wide on
average, the island is known for its dense forest. Lying on a small peninsula surrounded by city walls and fortresses, Korcula Town is one of the most beautiful medieval cities on the Adriatic Coast
(people call it ‘Little Dubrovnik’ because of its squares, churches, palaces and houses). B,D
Day 8 – Transfer to Dubrovnik airport and flight home B
